What is Chicago's claim to fame?

Of the three largest cities in America, I know New York features Big Business, Wall Street, Broadway, and the big TV Networks. Los Angeles is the movie-making and entertainment capital of the world, but I'm not so clear about Chicago. What are it's main areas of emphasis? Why do so many people live there? Thanks for any insight.
